Why some non-coaches get PN certification

Guy Prihar is like a lot of people who go to Precision Nutrition for help – really into science and always looking for a deep dive.

In 2016, when he was 40, Prihar started feeling super slow in the afternoons. He got to the point that his energy drops were interfering with his work as a legal professional.

He had always taken good care of his health and fitness. So he asked himself, “What’s going on? What am I missing? Is it a nutritional thing?”

His questions led him through a rabbit hole with nutritional information. He experimented with low carb and keto diets, which helped decrease initial energy.

“The more I’ve learned, the more curious I feel,” he explains. “After a while I decided I wanted more information of my own. I didn’t just want to trust what people on the Internet were saying. “

And that’s how he ended up catching the Precision nutrition level 1 certification—Without planning to become a professional nutrition coach.

Curious about Prihar’s experience, we asked:

This is what Prihar had to say.

Guy Prihar had important questions about his diet, so he obtained precision nutrition certification and became his own expert trainer.

1. What made you choose the precision nutrition level 1 certification?

While Prihar was looking for ways to learn about nutrition, he began to hear good things about PN. And he realized that many of the online coaches he respected had PN certification.

So he did some digging.

“I heard that Precision Nutrition was really up to date with the latest research, the data really published. And that’s what I wanted, ”says Prihar.

“I wanted to understand how things work and see the latest research. That’s what attracted me to PN. “

2. Why a certification? Why not just learn for free on the internet?

Some people in Prihar’s situation would only go to the Internet.

And here Prihar began as well. He got results from keto and low carb and the online groups he participated in.

But after a year, I wanted more.

It wasn’t that he necessarily wanted to make big changes in his own health and form. It was mostly what he wanted to learn.

He wanted to learn things for himself, from a reliable source.

And he didn’t want to waste time on what he calls the “brother of science.”

He explains: “Suppose someone achieves a great bodily transformation for themselves. Then they present some kind of training or nutrition routine like, “That’s what I did. You should do that. ‘ I never buy these things, because I don’t necessarily trust someone’s self-information. I want to see the data and understand how things work. “

Also, Prihar wanted a trusted source to bring it all together in one place, rather than having to try to put it all together himself.

3. What did you like most about the certification material?

Like many people with a scientific mindset, Prihar is wary of the information being transmitted these days.

Even more so because, although he now works in the legal field, he actually has a degree in biology.

“I really like the PN pointing out real research that I can find if I want to,” Prihar says. “I even went to look at some of the papers PN was quoting in the textbook.”

He also liked to see that the scientific concepts he knew were well communicated.

“There was some basic information I already knew, which I had learned years ago when I was studying biology,” he says. “I could tell PN was doing a good job presenting this information, which gave me more confidence and confidence in the information that was new to me.”

4. Was precision nutrition certification worth it?

Prihar’s answer is simple:

“Yes,” he says. “I wanted the latest information, so for me it was worth getting.”

“I really enjoyed reading the material. It was great to revisit some of the biology I had learned years ago in college, so I took it out once. ”

Unlike his college education, however, the certification made him think about applying real-life scientific concepts to the ones he was learning.

“I especially liked how this was more macro-oriented,” he says. “While before I would study, for example, genetic interactions or protein-protein interactions, PN takes it to a greater level, such as, this is what we observe at the level of performance, at the human level. This is what “It means a lot to people. I really appreciated it.”
