The Stonewall Inn, considered the birthplace of the American gay rights movement, said it would not sell alcoholic beverages brewed by Anheuser-Busch Brewery during the NYC Pride weekend, June 25-27, in due to corporate donations to Conservative legislators.

New York City’s famous LGBT + Stonewall Inn said it would pour Bud Light and Stella Artois beer this week to protest the brand owner’s corporate donations to conservative lawmakers who have supported bills aimed at transgender rights .

The Greenwich Village bar, considered the birthplace of the U.S. gay rights movement, said it would stop selling all alcoholic beverages made by Anheuser-Busch brewery during New York Pride weekend, May 25. to June 27th.

According to data from Keep Your Pride, an LGBT + campaign that monitors corporate donations, Anheuser-Busch has made 48 donations totaling $ 35,350 since 2015 to 29 lawmakers who have supported conservative bills on rights issues trans.

Anheuser-Busch, the largest U.S. brewery and subsidiary of Belgium-based Anheuser-Busch subsidiary Inheuser-Busch, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

He has not previously commented publicly on the political donations reported by Keep Your Pride.

Stonewall Inn co-owner Stacy Lentz said the “pouring” protest would take place on Wednesday.

“You can’t turn the logo into a rainbow on social media, call yourself an ally and then turn around and make donations that fuel hatred,” Lentz said in a statement.

“There really are no excuses and companies like Anheuser-Busch need to comply with what they have done,” he added.

This year, more than 250 LGBT +-related bills have been introduced in state legislatures, with 18 signed into law, according to the Human Rights Campaign, an LGBT + advocacy group.

Most of the laws passed restrict the sporting competence of trans children, while others prohibit medical care for trans youth and allow parents to choose their children from LGBT +-related subjects at school.

Proponents of the laws have said they want to protect the rights of girls and women in school sports and prevent young people from making medical decisions that they can then regret.
