Virginia does it right

The state implements the legalization of cannabis in the most rational way. Home Grow is flourishing instead of the illicit market.

The sound you hear is that cannabis professionals applaud Virginia’s approach to legalizing cannabis! It has been interesting to see how each of the 50 states deploys its own legalization plans.

Some states have done well, while others have done quite badly. Having been involved with the cannabis profession since its legal beginnings, we believe the VA governor made the right moves.

Instead of just decriminalizing possession, they have legalized home cultivation along with dispensaries.

At first glance it may seem a minor nuance, but in reality it is incredibly important, with huge ramifications. Some states, such as New Jersey, have legalized legalized possession and dispensaries, but have not legalized personal home cultivation.

With all the bureaucratic regulatory framework that needs to be built, and the necessary licensing and construction processes, realistically it will be at least a couple of years before dispensaries open their doors to business.

Where are people supposed to get their hands on these 6 ounces of weeds, then? The answer: the illicit market.

Failure to legalize personal home cultivation means that cannabis users will resort to the illicit market in these states.

But in Virginia, there is a clear and legal way to get legal cannabis in the meantime: growing yours at home.
