The first group in England, Croatia, sends luggage to Scotland from Euro 2020 | Euro2020 news

England, Croatia and the Czech Republic qualify for Group D Euro 2020 qualifiers.

After a 23-year wait to take part in a major football tournament, Scotland’s experience at Euro 2020 lasted just eight days.

A 3-1 defeat against Croatia on Tuesday ended Scotland’s hopes of progressing to the play-offs.

The Tartan army will fondly remember England’s frustration in a 0-0 draw at Wembley on Friday during their return to the light of international football.

But a master class from Croatian Luka Modric sent Steve Clarke’s men packing for the tournament.

“They’ve been amazing tonight, especially Modric,” defender Kieran Tierney said. “I think his performance was amazing.”

With both sides needing a win to secure their place in the qualifiers after scoring just one point in the first two games, Croatia’s greatest experience in controlling nerves for 90 minutes was revealing.

After soon giving way to Nikola Vlasic, Scotland overcame their first goal of the tournament through Callum McGregor to reach the level at the break.

But their energy reserves ran out in the second half as Croatia held the ball and eventually ended the resistance of the Scots in style.

The pound sterling rises in England

Three years ago, most of Scotland cheered when Croatia beat England to reach the 2018 FIFA World Cup final.

On Tuesday, Three Lions fans took revenge as they celebrated their departure from Scotland as they watched their teammates beat the Czech Republic 1-0 at Wembley to take first place in Group D.

Raheem Sterling scored the winning goal with a header in the 12th minute at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Jordan Henderson was caught napping as lifted a ball over him following a free kick, but the ball hit the bar, rebounding into the keeper’s arms.

Despite losing to England, the Czech Republic qualified for the round of 16 as one of the best teams in the third place.
