Berlin (dpa) – The federal government’s tourism commissioner has expressed optimism that holidays in Germany will be possible this summer. “I think a lot of people will have been vaccinated in June,” Thomas Bareiss (CDU) said Friday on the morning program “ZDF.” Given the number of doses available, almost everyone in Germany could have been vaccinated at least once. “I hope that a lot of progress will be made in June and that the summer holidays will definitely be possible,” the CDU politician said.
However, tourism in Germany will be the main focus this year, Bareiss said. He believes that “great long-distance journeys will not yet be possible.” In Whitsun, “it will probably still be a bit difficult” to take a vacation in many regions of Germany. Bareiss clarified that current regulations allow hotels and restaurants to reopen if the seven-day incidence is less than 100 on three consecutive days.
