Those looking for a new laptop now have another option to choose from. really has launched its first laptop, the realm book.

Prior to its launch, people had pointed out that it looked like a MacBook Air or a MacBook Pro. (I have what they say, but again, most laptops don’t take on this generic design right now?)

In any case, functionality is likely to take precedence over users ’aesthetics, so here’s what to expect from the realm book.

There will be 3 variants available, with the Realme Book i3 and the Realme Book i5 (both with 8GB of RAM and 512GB SSD) available for purchase on August 27th.

realme Book i3 will have a suggested retail price (PVP) of RM 2,999, while realme Book i5 will have a PVP of RM 3,499. Both come in 2 colors: royal blue and gray gray.

The third variant, realme Book i5 (16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD) does not yet have a release date in Malaysia, but its PVP is 3,999 RM. It will come in a single color, real blue.

These 14-inch laptops have a screen-to-body ratio of 90% thanks to the thin bezels. The last laptop I tested with thin bezels was the Huawei MateBook D15 (2021), and while the widescreen provided a great viewing experience, the compromise was the pop-up camera that captured you at a weird angle.

Fortunately, this is not the case with the realm book, as it maintains an integrated 720P HD camera at the top of the screen for virtual meetings.

One of its attractions that is really trying to market is its 2K screen. More specifically, it has a resolution of 2160 x 1440 pixels. For reference, most current laptops offer an average resolution of 1920 x 1080.

While not a big leap, you can still expect higher quality, sharper screen images. This should make playing, editing or watching shows a pleasure.

realme Book weighs about 1.38 kg (the i5 16 + 512 GB version weighs 1.48 kg), which is decent for its size.

It runs on a large (typical) 54 Wh battery and can be charged up to 50% in 30 minutes if the laptop is turned off. However, a full load should take just under half a day for users if they are not running intensive programs. Windows 10 Home will come pre-installed, with a free upgrade to Windows 11 available.

Realme Book can be purchased using Shopee, SENHENG, Courts and all authorized shops across the Realme from 27 August. Each purchase will have a 2-year warranty.

Expanding its technological repertoire

Realme already has a plethora of devices under its brand, including smart TVs, smart watches, wireless headphones, and of course smartphones.

With laptops now being added to its repertoire, we’ll probably see it really develop a more robust technology ecosystem (like it does with the TechLife ecosystem, but more focused on connectivity between communication devices).

Did you know: The realm TechLife ecosystem allows users to control smart light bulbs, motion sensor lights, home security cameras, smart scales and smart plugs from the phone. In May 2021, the Indian brand DIZO was announced as the first collaborating brand in the ecosystem.

With the launch of its laptop, the brand has also announced a new feature called PC connect that will allow users to link their realm smartphones with their realm book. This means that users can control their realm smartphone from the realm book, similar to the collaboration of Samsung Flow and Huawei screens.

Interestingly, could Realme’s foray into laptops also be a kind of pilot test for the eventual launch of OPPO laptops? In late 2020 it was reported that the parent company had supposedly planned to launch tablets and laptops also in 2021, although there has been no news on this topic as of today.

realme is too working on a tablet, realme Pad, although there has been no confirmed release date. The entry into the market of tablets and laptops will really compete with Xiaomi, Huawei and Honor.

Sure, it looks like Realme has arrived a little late to the party, but his first laptop has already caught the attention of fans and non-fans alike. If the laptop meets expectations, it would be the start of another lucrative sector for the brand.

Will it eliminate its more experienced competition in this field? It remains to be seen.
