A Yorkshire board of trustees has launched a tender for an electronic patient record for a period of seven years.

The Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust (HSC) wants to replace its in-house electronic patient record (EPR) system with a “fully managed” solution.

The successful bidder is expected to support confidence in the provision of their mental health and social care services for an initial period of seven years (84 months), with the option to extend the contract to 10 years.

The trust worked with professional services firm Apira to develop its EPR business case and execute procurement.

The selected provider is expected to provide an EPR that “will provide clinical and nonclinical teams with improved access to patient information, facilitating staff access to the right information at the right time,” according to a statement from the trust. and Apira.

It will also provide a single point of entry for patient data, with staff being able to access it remotely from anywhere, making it easier to use and reducing data duplication.

“A modern, robust and reliable electronic patient registration solution through trust is an essential component to make this a reality and we are pleased to have Apira on board to support our journey.

“Covid-19 has already shown that there is not only a readiness, but also a desire to use technology to support and improve the care given to patients and we look forward to welcoming our new partner to the EPR system.” .

Other mental health trusts in the region: South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw; West Yorkshire and Harrogate; and the integrated care systems Humber, Coast and Vale: they can join the contract at a later stage, as indicated in the tender notice.

“Sheffield HSC is looking for a provider to provide a range of deployment / deployment services, in addition to hosting the EPR and providing ongoing support and maintenance services,” according to the tender announcement.

The expected cost of the contract was not disclosed. The tender is open until August 23 and the successful supplier is expected to launch the EPR in January 2022 by the January 2029 contract end date.
