After spending at least 2 weeks with the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite, has become the device I look for after work to relax. Priced at RM 699, it doesn’t have sleek processors or graphics, but it does may forgive its low-resolution screen in 2021, is a tablet that has a good performance for leisure.

In general, it could refer more to a life tablet than to a mini laptop. That’s why I personally like it, considering how it compares to tablets from other brands in the same price range.

1. A device built exclusively for leisure

Most of us already have a laptop to work with and a phone to stay connected to. But some may appreciate the separation of work and work life, where they prefer to separate themselves from emails and messages so that it can end. Sure, you can turn off notifications, but muscle memory or the tendency to check some work apps won’t give you real peace of mind yet.

The Tab A7 Lite can fill this void in your device, as you can use it exclusively for gaming, entertainment, and reading, as it’s not designed exactly for productivity. It doesn’t come with a stylus or an official keyboard book cover, so you probably find it too tiring to type on the on-screen keyboard to work on it.

While the 4GB RAM on the tab struggles to give you the best images when it comes to demanding games, I was able to run my favorite open world game, Sky: Children of the Light (Sky), really well.

It even changed my dislike for this genre of gaming, as its 8.7-inch screen provided me with a more enjoyable immersive experience compared to my phone’s small screen.

On the downside, you should be happy with the pixelated graphics running on the 1340 x 800 pixel screen and the 179 PPI screen. However, if you prefer to use tablets for e-readers, lower display quality should not be an issue.

Does not include an integrated game mode, such as the Amazon Fire HD 8 (2020) 519.99 RM, ideal for those who want to play their game in peace with deleted notifications. However, you’ll need to use the navigation modes for Google apps (including YouTube) on the Amazon tab, which also has a lower resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.

2. Indulgent audio quality for movies

Although the low resolution screen of the Samsung Tab A7 Lite disappointed me slightly, its great audio quality redeemed it to my eyes. Equipped with Dolby Atmos stereo speakers, the tab audio is loud enough to fill a small room when performing on Netflix.

I find it beneficial, as my ears tend to tire me out after a long day of wearing headphones for virtual meetings.

The music also sounded sharp and clear on the tab. While other critics have pointed to the lack of speaker bass, my taste for pop and musical theater didn’t suffer too much, as they are genres with a lot of voice and treble.

The device has a 3.5mm headphone jack and can also be connected to Bluetooth headphones, providing both options if you prefer. However, the tab doesn’t include any headset inside the box, which means you’ll need to get a separate pair if you don’t have one yet.

Dolby Atmos seems to be an advantage offered only by Samsung and Lenovo devices, and the closest competitor we can find to the audio quality of the Tab A7 Lite is its big brother, the Tab A7. However, this would cost you 200 RM more to 899 RM.

For a Lenovo option, the latest tablet offered by Dolby Atmos is the Lenovo Tab M7 Gen 3. It is supposed to be priced at € 499, but currently not available for purchase.

3. Easily store it in the bag for outings

Due to its 366g lightness, the Tab A7 Lite is not only comfortable to hold for long periods of play, but is also easy to carry in most bags without straining your shoulders.

It also has a non-removable 5,100 mAh battery, which, with a full charge, is enough to last you up to 10 hours. So, if you’re about to go somewhere and need to spend time queuing, the Tab A7 Lite can be used to recover your previously downloaded Netflix series.

The tab fits easily in my little on-the-go handbag

Although the review drive I got was only wifi enabled, there was at least one micro-SD card slot that allowed me to download up to 1TB of shows to watch, plus 64GB d ‘storage.

It can be said that the closest device with a slightly lower range, size and weight (347 g) would be the 2019 Galaxy Tab A from Samsung a RM599. As the oldest entry-level device, it only includes 32GB of storage and a micro-SD card slot totaling 128GB. While it costs 100 RM more, it is clear that the Tab A7 Lite is much better in this case.

Otherwise, for a similar external storage capacity, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 offers you up to 32GB of internal storage with an additional 1TB micro SD.

4. It is a family tablet

Although I’m not a parent, I’ve taken care of most of my cousins when they were little kids and I’ve learned that screens are a gift from God when you really try to focus on a task.

But you also hear stories like that of a child in the Philippines who got 42 foodpanda drivers to show up at his house because of the malfunction of the app and think that children should not be endowed with that power.

Fortunately, parental restrictions can be enabled on the A7 Lite tab using Samsung Kids. Set up a pin-protected child-independent home screen where parents can control screen time, set play time limits, and add Galaxy Apps for Kids apps.

The Huawei MatePad T8 (RM559) also includes own versions of parental controls. Allows you to monitor and control the use of the tab, including application, time, and content limits. You can also set photos and videos that your children can view on your device.

But with the Huawei tab you can’t get Google apps from yours US / China trade war, you should download their APK versions which may open the device to a greater vulnerability.

There are a lot of cheap tablets on the market right now, but the Tab A7 Lite is a strong candidate. If you have never used a tablet before or are thinking of getting one for beginners, this is a great beginner level tablet.

It has its shortcomings, such as the low-resolution screen, but ultimately how many hours a day would you really spend on a leisure tablet? For what it is capable of, we would say it is worth its price.

That said, it’s important to understand what you want a tablet to be, and if the points I’ve highlighted above match your demands, it’s possible that the A7 Lite tab is for you.
