RecoveryOne, Swan offers virtual physical therapy for Medicare Advantage clients

What you should know:

RecoveryOne, a digital health dedicated to improving health outcomes for the recovery of musculoskeletal injury (MSK) of all kinds and reducing costs, announced an expansion of its partnership with Cigna to offer its virtual physical therapy and its comprehensive MSK solution for Medicare Advantage (MA) clients for the benefit of the network.

– This new benefit is based on the partnership between Cigna and RecoveryOne announced last year where RecoveryOne was available to Cigna business customers and was the first MSK-related virtual program offered by any US health plan. The relationship also includes a Cigna Ventures investment in January 2020. RecoveryOne is included in Express Scripts Digital health form.

Why it matters

This is an important step in the industry because it is aimed at the people most in need of an affordable and effective virtual solution to MSK conditions: 3 out of 4 adults people over the age of 65 will suffer from MSK conditions such as fall injuries, back pain or osteoarthritis. The RecoveryOne solution allows this vulnerable group to recover at home, avoiding the logistics of travel, as well as security concerns with personal care due to COVID. For the plans, it’s a cost-effective solution: In a national claims data analysis of more than 350,000 members, the total medical cost was reduced by $ 751 per member per month for MSK-related diagnoses.

“We are proud to expand our partnership with Swan to improve overall quality of life, including pain reduction and return to previous functionality for the Medicare Advantage population,” said Dustin Eggers, vice president and commercial director of RecoveryOne. “We look forward to offering the RecoveryOne platform to additional markets during the New Year.”
