Pepper Jack green bean casserole – Health Guild News

I first published this recipe in 2012 Friends we share on this blog. This is still the casserole of green beans I make over and over again.

While it may be a little different from some versions, it is a classic. For this reason, I wanted to update this post (we didn’t even have printable recipe cards in 2012) and re-publish it for all of you if you need a green bean casserole recipe for this holiday season.

I leave you with the original photo showing how to make this recipe ramekins, but I also added some updated photos.

This gave me an excuse to make this recipe again, which my husband and I ate with a baked chicken on a random Tuesday night (and it seemed like a mini party).

Best pan of green beansI haven’t liked the green bean casserole in a long time. For me, it usually had too soft a texture. I also thought it was kind of a weird pairing: green beans with creamy soup (if you make it with condensed soup, that is). But the first time I did it, I used fresh green beans, and my opinion changed. Forever.

Homemade green bean casserole

This green bean casserole is made with pepper jack cheese. This adds a little more creaminess, along with a little spice. I love it combined with the crunchiness of French fried onion.

Other trim options:
Casserole of Macaroni of Green Beans
Stuffed mac and cheese in the oven
Cauliflower Gratinada
Mashed potatoes in slow cooker

You can do this early by following the recipe to the oven. Stop there, cover, and then refrigerate the casserole until you’re ready for your meal. Then bake and finish the pan with the extra fried onions (at the end of cooking time).

I also think this casserole makes big envelopes the next day, just heated in the microwave. But this is probably one of my favorite parts of Thanksgiving: the leftovers for the next day!

If you make this green bean casserole recipe, let us know what you think in the comments! Happy holidays, friends. xo. Emma

  1. Remove the ends of the green beans and cut into 1-inch pieces.

  2. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the green beans until tender. Remove from the water and let it cool (note that they will continue to cook a little longer). If they are already as soft as you prefer, you can add them to an ice water bath to stop the cooking process.

  3. In a small saucepan, fry the chopped mushrooms and onions in the olive oil over medium heat until the onions have softened. Aside.

  4. In a saucepan, melt the butter. Add the flour and beat to combine. Let it cook / bubble for 2 minutes.

  5. Now, add the milk and broth. Stir to combine. Add the cheese. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper if necessary.

  6. Now add the green beans, onion and mushroom mixture and stir to cover all the beans. Then add half of the fried onions to the French.

  7. Pour this mixture into the ramekins or your square baking dish.

  8. Bake in the oven at 350 ° F for 28-30 minutes. Top with the remaining fried onions for the last 5-8 minutes of cooking.
