A Scandinavian style would thoroughly describe my preference for the interior design of my future home. Maybe it’s my fondness for IKEA showrooms or its minimalist style uses a mix of soft textures and shades to make the sleek, modern décor warm and cozy.

But for those who want to get away from a worldly trap, a certain contrast in the form of unique decoration is needed. Lasprecious design Ocean-themed furniture (despised) could be a welcome addition. You can add personality to a room, knowing that no two pieces of identical resin designs.

He devoted his savings to an unknown vessel

The creator behind Lasprecious is Froson, a graduate of Quantity Surveyor from UTAR. During his career at a construction company, he would like to visit the place where he could see different interior designs in new buildings.

This interest was a natural extension of his creative talent from a young age when he made his own toys from rubbish, illustrated comics and took up the guitar to write songs.

When the time came for his elderly parents to retire, Froson wanted to start a business to help them stay comfortable and at the same time create something that would stand out in the furniture market.

Thus, he devoted himself to the art of resin despite having no previous experience with the material. He started watching over 20 tutorial videos on YouTube and most of his savings were spent buying materials and tools to practice.

During the first 3 months of R&D, Froson only stayed in 4 hours of sleep each night, staying awake to control the reactions of the resin. More than 20 types of resin experiments were tested and failed before landing on their first complete design of a lamp he named Ocean Heart.

A sea of home decor

If you look through the Lasprecious website, you will notice that all of their products are centered around the ocean as a theme. Froson told Vulcan Post that when it began in 2017, handmade lamps were not only limited to the oceans, but also carried diverse forest and landscape designs.

“However, during those months, we found that our ocean-themed lamp was the best-selling,” Froson said. The startup’s product categories expanded in 2018 with ocean-themed watches and vases that once again received maximum sales.

This was a fundamental vision for Lasprecious. “In 2019, we decided to focus first on ocean-themed designs,” Froson said, adding that they hoped it would give their brand a chance to specialize in themed products.

Taking a look at the online options, it looks like no other local player is creating ocean-themed resin products for interior design. Lasprecious found a niche in the market, but was one that saw significant demand, as Froson previously shared.

Lasprecious is mostly sold to young adults between the ages of 25 and 35 who are looking for something unique to have at home: if you will, it’s a piece of statement.

“The majority [people] of the younger generations will design their home for themselves as they know what they want and choose what they like. Some of our customers liked the ocean theme and bought almost the whole set of our products together, ”Froson added.

“Hopefully, after the pandemic, we will be able to participate in more furniture fairs and bazaars to promote our brand and increase our sales in the market. In the future, we will also go to the tourist market and to the hotel promotions near the beach ”.

They are sisters, not twins

All resin creations are handmade and Lasprescious also uses stones that are naturally shaped the environment, which means no two pieces are alike despite a similar design.

How can quality control be guaranteed on the boat? It boils down to consistency in the sizes and color palettes used. A standardized mold is used to combat the former, while a fixed ratio for mixtures of sand, resin and colors helps the latter. For designs that require stones, Froson manually selects those of similar sizes.

To create waves, consistency, control, and precision are required when blowing with just one chance to shape your design. A leveled base is essential when pouring liquid resin, as a sloping mold would settle on an uneven surface for the product.

Because creation is a slow and tedious process, Lasprecious can only produce a few quantities per batch. For your smaller products, such as plates, clocks, and lamps, you can make between 10 and 20 copies per batch, while for larger items like tables, there will only be 1 to 3 copies of each type.

The prices of your products may vary depending on your size. For example (without applying discounts), the clocks and lamps have a value of RM320 each, the plates are RM50, while the tables can range from RM880 to RM 9,800.

So far, Lasprecious has recorded an average monthly income of between 5,000 and 20,000 RM in especially good months. Taking customer feedback and preferences into account and making improvements to their products is what Froson believes boosted their growth.

Think that creating a theme product would age after a while, but the Lasprecious team thinks differently. Only from the ocean have they found the inspiration to create subcategories like Sunshine Beach, Pink Beach, Blue Tears and more.

They probably won’t run out of themed inspiration from the oceans for quite some time, but when they do, Froson already has other themes planned. If you’re always looking for highlights, expect to see Lasprecious products with forest and galaxy themes in two years.
