A neighborhood in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou has been closed as officials rush to stifle an increase in area cases.
The industrial center in northern Hong Kong, home to nearly 15 million people, has reported 20 new cases coronavirus last week.
A notice from the Guangzhou Municipal Health Bureau released on Saturday identified five streets in Liwan District, in downtown how “high risk areas“and ordered residents to stay inside until the door – to – door tests were completed.
Markets, schools and entertainment spaces in the area were closed.
He city the government has rushed to conduct massive tests and some 700,000 people had been tested on Wednesday.
China has largely controlled the spread of the virus and tightened quarantine rules after an increase in cases in neighboring countries.
The mini-outbreak in Guangzhou is believed to be related to a 75-year-old woman who tested positive for the virus variant first identified in India, local health officials said.
The total number of confirmed infections in China to date is 91,061, with 4,636 deaths, according to the latest figures from the National Health Commission.
