Finally we spoke to the Malaysian point of sale (POS) system provider Aoikumo, the brand was providing its services clients in the fields of beauty, medicine and wellness.

At the time, however, CEO Kevin Nair had already expressed interest in offering dental clinics to Vulcan Post as well.

Just under a year later, he was proud to share that they had achieved that goal. In a month since the launch of its new POS system, kumoDent, 15 dental clinics had already been incorporated.

Adjusting the system

It all started with queries from dental industry players who had understood that Aoikumo’s POS system was being used by medical and beauty service providers in 2019.

When the MCO arrived in 2020, the Aoikumo team considered it an opportune time for them to divert development attention to a proper dental POS system.

But if Aoikumo’s existing POS system was able to serve beauty, medical, and wellness service providers, why did they have to make an extra effort to create a new system just for dental clinics?

Kevin responded, “We were missing the dental and periodontal chart and at the same time the patient’s journey, which is the flow from the point where the patient arrives at the clinic to the billing, was also different.” .

Did you know: Periodontal refers to anything related to or affecting the structures that surround and support the teeth.

“Apart from that, Aoikumo had many more functions than those required by dental clinics, such as package control, marketing module, level commissions, and so on.”

Despite these differences, the team’s goal was still for both kumoDent and Aoikumo to share the same platform.

This was so that their applications kumoSan (for personnel management) and kumoBiz (a lightweight version of the POS system to facilitate commercial operations) could also be used by kumoDent subscribers, denying the need to develop more separate ones. .

However, this plan came with a warning. “We had to make sure that whatever we did didn’t interrupt existing Aoikumo customers when kumoDent was launched,” Kevin shared.

So the team spent most of the time testing to make sure their architecture could hold up with the addition of kumoDent.

Taking care of your customers’ needs

KumoDent is not the only POS system of the dental clinic in Malaysia, as there are also foreign competitors offering their services here.

But Kevin believes he and Aoikumo’s team have their USPs down. Creating the most efficient, high-tech system would still mean nothing if people who wanted to use it didn’t know it.

Because the main users of kumoDent are nurses and doctors, the team makes sure that all the new features and features released are easy to use. At the same time, they provide easy-to-access help and support.

There are also value-added services within the Aoikumo ecosystem that include the aforementioned kumoSan application.

As for the client, Aoikumo has a MeTIME Wellness app so patients can book appointments, check previous transactions and more.

Some upcoming plans to improve it include adding an in-app purchase feature that allows patients to pay for treatments in the app.

And because, as they say, knowledge is power, kumoDent provides patients with written post-treatment care that give advice on how to care for your teeth after a filling or extraction of the wisdom tooth, for example.

This end-to-end care has proven popular among kumoDent’s target clientele, and today, dental clinics account for about 10% of Aoikumo’s global subscribers, and Kevin noted that it is still a growing number. .

Focus and on track

Over the next year, Aoikumo aims to incorporate a total of 300 clinics into kumoDent. The team has set aside budgets to increase its sales and marketing efforts to raise awareness and strengthen its brand identity.

After those efforts, Kevin said, “We’re still on track and we’re confident we’ll achieve the goal next year.”

As for other growth targets, he responded: “Regional and international expansion, if the situation allows, as well as greater adoption of the MeTIME Wellness app to facilitate patient bookings and purchases.”

While the possibilities are endless, Kevin and his team choose to focus first on kumoDent and Aoikumo, but will not close other verticals within the medical and wellness industry in the future.
