Footballers and fans are turning to social media to send their wishes to the recovery of the Danish midfielder after his collapse during the Euro 2020 match.
Shocked football players and fans flooded social media to send their wishes to Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen after he collapsed on the field during his country’s Europe 2020 match with Finland.
The 29-year-old suddenly fell to the ground in the 42nd minute of Saturday’s game as he ran near the left contact line at Copenhagen’s Parken Stadium. The medical staff resuscitated him and took him to the hospital.
UEFA, the governing body of the tournament, said Eriksen was “in a stable state”, while the Danish football federation said he was awake. The match resumed at 18:30 GMT.
Earlier, the dramatic scenes had caused an instant shock sensation at the stadium, where some 15,000 fans fell into a silent silence. Some fans could be seen crying and hugging in the stands, before the chants of Eriksen’s name filled Parken for the fans of both teams.
A huge roar came out of all the fans when the stadium advertisers said in a statement on the video screen that Eriksen was “stable and awake.”
