As a four-eyed person who barely distinguishes words at an arm’s length without my glasses, the pandemic revealed an unexpected problem.
When I wear an inappropriate face mask, my glasses may darken. Am I forced to make a decision there and then: do I take off my glasses and wipe the fog with my shirt or do I stay there like a mannequin, waiting for the fog to clear?
Both predicates present a complicated scenario.
Touching my glasses will mean I am potentially contaminating them with your hands or shirt and vice versa, while that means I waste time unnecessarily. Like many others, I sometimes forget that exposed eyes can also be a source of infection.
While I’m sure other colleagues with glasses can relate, there’s a group with a higher risk, the health leaders. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is worn from head to toe during a full working day. I can’t even begin to imagine the discomfort they must suffer if their glasses darken, or even worse, handling a pair of contaminated glasses while helping those in need.
And as cases continue to fluctuate by the thousands, Metro Optical Group (MOG), a well-established local optical brand, decided to intervene and offer a helping hand in a way that they can, providing additional protection and peace of mind to health leaders, through its recent introduction ZEISS antiviral lenses.
You know: MOG was founded in 1996 by two brothers, Dato ‘Frankie Ng and Dato’ Henry Ng. The duo created the company with a simple vision. “To help the world see better.” Later, Datin Bernice Low joined the duo and in just 25 years, the company went through more than 95 outlets across the Malaysian Peninsula to offer great eye care and a modern shopping experience. glasses.
Dato ‘Frankie Ng, president of Metro Optical Group, said: “While the past year has been particularly challenging for many, it is an inexplicable principle to continue to offer an exemplary eye care experience through continuous innovation in both products as in services “.
Through a collaboration with ZEISS, a world-leading optical manufacturer with 175 years of pioneering optical innovation, MOG presents the ZEISS anti-virus lens, one of the latest creations in the optical industry. These lenses are unique because they are created with a special coating this can disables 99.9% of bacteria and viruses.
The science behind the antivirus lens
According to ZEISS, antivirus lenses are coated through a special process that introduces antimicrobial payment ions which are deposited on the surface of the lens at high temperatures.
When water droplets carrying bacteria and viruses land on the lens surface, silver ions (Ag +) will interact directly and indirectly with contaminants, disabling 99.9% of bacteria and viruses.
Note: External institutes validated and tested the ZEISS AntiVirus lenses according to ISO 21702: 2019 (E) “Measurement of antiviral activities of viruses wrapped on plastic and non-porous surfaces” and ISO 22196: 2011 “Measurement of antibacterial activity in plastics and other non-porous surfaces.”
Silver nanoparticles have been studied extensively previously for their antimicrobial properties and have been shown to be effective growth inhibitors in various microorganisms. Some dressings also contain silver to improve wound healing.
While it’s still best to thoroughly clean it, wear proper protection, and maintain personal hygiene, ZEISS antivirus lenses provide an extra measure of protection and peace of mind.
In addition to the DuraVision Antivirus Platinum coating, the lens includes full UV protection, anti-reflection and dirt resistance.
