Here we are big fans of gelatin. I add it to mine marshmallow recipe i sana gelatina. Tangerine jelly beans are another delicious and healthy way to enjoy this superfood.

Why Tangerine Gummies?

One of the main reasons to consider taking vitamins in gummy form is the gelatin they contain. If you’ve been visiting the Wellness Mama site for a long time, you already know how great gelatin is. It strengthens hair and nails, reduces wrinkles and supports healthy joint function to facilitate movement.

Gelatin comes from the connective tissue (collagen) of animals and contains amino acid proteins that we need for a healthy body. In fact, 25-35% of our body’s protein is made up of collagen. You can read more about benefits of gelatin here.

Difference between gelatin and collagen

This is where things can sometimes get confused. The collagen (connective tissues) of animals decomposes into gelatin and becomes powder or turned into leaves. Gelatin can be broken down into collagen hydrosolate powder.

While both are incredibly healthy, it’s the gelatin we want to use in these tangerine jelly beans. Collagen hydrosolate will not gel. This makes it ideal for adding to soups, smoothies and coffee, but not so much when we want a gummy candy.

It’s also worth noting that I only use grass-fed gelatin. Cows raised in pasture they are healthier and have a higher proportion of healthy nutrients compared to factory farm animals. It is better for the planet and our bodies.

Find tangerines

In fact, I had to go to a few different stores before I found tangerines. If you can’t find them, oranges can work as well, although the taste will obviously be different. Clementines and mandarin oranges are popular lately and have a close relationship with mandarins, so they are also a good substitute.

If you can find tangerines, the unique spicy flavor is worth it. Tangerines (like most citrus fruits) are rich in vitamin C. You will also find some beta-carotene, B vitamins, calcium, magnesium and potassium.

An increase in vitamin C.

Most of us think of vitamin C when we smell citrus, but camu camu berry makes them come out of the water. Just a teaspoon of camu camu berry powder provides over 1,000% of our daily value of vitamin C. Camu camu is also one of the star ingredients of my vitamin C. Herbal electuers.

This recipe makes 8 servings of citrus gum that reaches just over 100% vitamin C per serving. Unlike other supplements, eating more than one serving won’t hurt. In the worst case, you may get loose stools if you eat a whole double batch.

According to Mayo Clinic the average adult can handle up to 2,000 mg of vitamin C before they start having digestive problems. This recipe has less than half that amount in the entire batch. So eat.

Tangerine gummies

Between the spicy tangerine juice, the vitamin C-rich camu camu and the protein-filled gelatin, these gummy snacks are as healthy as they are delicious. As they are well kept in the fridge, it is a great snack to take for the little ones. You may want to double the batch because they don’t last long.

If you want to add essential oil to increase the flavor but you do not have the tangerine on hand, sweet orange it will also work.

Tangerine Gummies Recipe

Get healthier hair, skin and nails along with an increase in vitamin C in these delicious tangerine citrus gummies.

Total time 2 hours 15 minutes

Instructions

  • Beat the tangerine juice and honey together in a saucepan until combined.

  • Sprinkle the gelatin over the top of the juice mixture and let it rest for about 4 minutes to “bloom”. When the top looks wrinkled and the gelatin has been absorbed into the liquid, turn the heat to medium low.

  • Beat gently until the gelatin is completely dissolved, about 3-5 minutes. Don’t be fooled here or the mix will be very frothy.

  • Turn off the heat and beat quickly with the essential oil if you use it. This helps to increase the taste of citrus fruits.

  • Pour the juice mixture into the molds and refrigerate until firm. If you do not use a mold, a glass plate will also work. Simply cut the gelatin into squares when cooled.

Notes

To remove the easiest tangerine jellies from the mold, place them in the freezer for about 5 minutes. Don’t let them freeze as it changes texture.
