About three out of five people in Singapore are fully vaccinated as of July 28, the Singapore government said in an alert on Friday (July 30).
So far 3.21 million people have completed the full regiment, which represents 57% of the population.
There are 4.28 million people who have received at least the first dose.
The vaccines currently being administered are Pfizer-BioNTech / Comirnaty and Moderna.
Singapore intends completely vaccinate two-thirds of its population around the National Day of the 9 of August. That means about 560,000 more people need to be vaccinated.
Last week, about 47,000 more people were completely vaccinated on average each day. With 12 days to go before the 9th of July of the last July 28 vaccination update, this shows that Singapore is on track to reach the National Day target of almost 67% of the population.
If Singapore maintains the momentum of vaccination at the current rate, it will also reach the 80% target as early as the end of August.
The goal seems achievable according to current calculations and is in line with that of Health Minister Ong Ye Kung update in Parliament Monday (July 26) that four in five of the population is expected to have received two doses in early September.
Singapore would then have one of the highest vaccination rates in the world, and this “puts us in a strong position to transition to a Covid-19-resistant society,” Ong had said.
Call for the elderly to be vaccinated
Singapore has been urging seniors to show up to get vaccinated. According to public records, one in five people over the age of 70 is not yet vaccinated.
For the elderly who are between 60 and 69 years old, approximately one in seven is not vaccinated.
“Seniors: If you haven’t been vaccinated, do it as soon as possible, so that you are protected and we can reopen safely,” the Ministry of Health urged in its latest update.
“People aged 60 and over can enter any vaccination center, polyclinic, participating PHPC or mobile vaccination station to get vaccinated.”
