Ireland and the United Kingdom work together for digital innovation in healthcare

The Irish Health Service Executive has partnered with the UK Department for International Trade to help promote digital innovation in Ireland.

The collaboration between the Health Service Executive (HSE) of Ireland and the Department of International Trade (DIT) aims to help accelerate the digital transformation and is expected to benefit patients in both the UK and Ireland. .

The news of the association was announced at an October virtual trade mission organized by the British embassy in Dublin, Ireland.

Outstanding experience in the DIT Digital Health Playbook, a publication showcasing the UK’s best digital and ICT solutions, will be a key focus for the company. There will also be opportunities for the HSE to take advantage of the UK’s growing digital health sector, to help with Ireland’s ambition to be a leader in digital health in Europe by 2025.

Hassan Chaudhury, Global Digital Health Specialist at Healthcare UK, said: “The DIT Digital Health Playbook contains a unique 10-part taxonomy focused on needs. It articulates the UK’s exportable strengths in health education. and shows those who stand out for being tried and tested and, most importantly, making a difference in one of the world’s most complex health systems, during its most difficult time. ”

Following the announcement, 10 UK digital healthcare companies, listed in the handbook, presented their solutions to the assessment team with the possibility of investing in HSE.

In a video message issued at the trade mission, Stephen Donnelly, Minister of Health of Ireland, acknowledged the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and changes in the healthcare sector. He commented that it is more important than ever to “learn from each other and establish links between the industry and our health services that will ultimately benefit patients in both health systems.”

The event was attended by Professor Martin Curley, Director of Digital Transformation at the HSE in Ireland. He said: “Our digital strategy is ambitious but determined. ‘Stay Left, Shift Left’ is about using technology to move people as quickly as possible from an acute environment to a community to a home. form this collaboration, we seek to take advantage of digital innovation and the experience that there is that they can do it and they can do it quickly “.

HSE’s “Stay Left, Shift Left” digital transformation policy aims to use technology to keep people well and at home. It is supported by Sláintecare’s health policy which is transforming health and social care services in Ireland.
