The Health Sciences Agency (HSA) has authorized the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine for use in children between the ages of 12 and 15, Health Minister Ong Ye said today (May 18) Kung.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said it would work with the Ministry of Education (MOE) on a vaccination program for this age group and would provide more updates in due course.

This is the first Covid-19 vaccine authorized for this age group in Singapore. Previously, only those 16 years of age or older were considered eligible to receive the vaccine.

Our committee of experts on vaccination against COVID-19 has also influenced their support. Both teams have evaluated that the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine demonstrated high efficacy and safety for this age group of 12 to 15 years, which is consistent with what we observed for the adult population.

Starting Wednesday (May 19), all schools will move on to home learning until the end of the term on May 28. The announcement came after several elementary students tested positive for Covid-19.

From Wednesday, people aged 40 to 44 will also be invited to register for their vaccines.

Individuals can register online using vaccine.gov.sg, and will receive an SMS acknowledgment message after registration. A separate SMS will then be sent with a personalized booking link to book an appointment for eligible people.

MOH said people can expect to receive the message in a week or two from registration.
