Unidentified people attacked President Moise’s private residence overnight and shot him dead, according to the caretaker prime minister.
Haitian President Jovenel Moise has been assassinated at his home, interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph said.
A group of unidentified individuals attacked Moise’s private resident Wednesday night and shot him dead, Joseph said.
The first lady was hospitalized in the attack.
Moise had been ruling Haiti, the poorest country in the Americas, by decree after the 2018 legislative elections were delayed and after disputes over the end of his own term.
Joseph said he was now in charge of the country.
