Clinically, the standard of origin of fracture diagnosis has been X-ray imaging equipment. Digital radiography (DR) can show the change of the entire external structure around the lesion, with a high spatial resolution. and a low price, significantly higher than other imaging examinations such as CT in fracture identification.
Under normal circumstances, well-trained physicians can basically determine the state of the fracture using DR images, still at risk of missed diagnosis. According to statistics, the rate of missed diagnosis of X-ray fracture is 15%, especially in the limbs considering the joints.

So is this “new thing” useful? Trustworthy?
In order to relieve the work pressure of doctors, make up for the defects caused by inexperience, and improve the accuracy of fracture imaging examination, Qianfoshan Hospital has introduced HY Medical fracture software in 2020.
However, many orthopedic doctors and radiologists, including Aiyin, still have doubts about the reliability of this “new thing” after the introduction of the product.
Regarding concerns, this hospital conducted a specific trial to re-perform AI-assisted screenings of DR films from past fractures using monthly case tracking, later comparing them with previously published reports.
As a result, Aiyin and colleagues were surprised to find that in more than 30 DR films that young doctors could not accurately judge, this software accurately labeled the site of the injury, including the cases that almost caused disputes. This made him realize that the application of artificial intelligence technology in the medical field will bring great help to the clinical work of doctors.
Once the DR movies are finished, the AI software will directly publish a background report, which will mark all suspected fractures in red and will only take a few seconds. Once completed, doctors will issue a second judgment on the marked area and finally issue a report.
