Singapore’s first alcohol vending machine is already in service and dependent on it SingPass to verify the age of the buyer.
Launched by alcoholic beverage retailer Cellarbration, those who are of legal drinking age can now get alcohol at their store in the center east. In Singapore, the legal drinking age is 18.
How SingPass-enabled vending machines work
Buyers can verify their age by scanning a QR code on the machine with the SingPass app on their smartphones. Cellarbration worked with FinTech and AI Technology company, Auresys, to incorporate this new verification feature into the vending machines so that they could be managed remotely.
Vending machines are equipped with a robotic arm that can dispense heavy, strange and fragile items, such as glass bottles, without damaging the products.
Packaged boozy drinks will only be distributed after the customer verifies their age with SingPass and contactless payment has been confirmed. Payments can be made with bank cards, mobile apps, and stored value cards.

Non-Oriental residents can expect to see more SingPass-enabled alcohol vending machines in other parts of the island and at Cellarbration outlets in the coming months.

Cellarbration’s alcohol vending machine is located at Downtown East, 1 Pasir Ris Close, no. 01-304 / 305.
