Elsevier, a world leader in research and information analysis publishing, announced today that it has acquired Osmosis, a visual based in the United States digital health learning platform that has simplified the complex learning journey for millions of current and future healthcare professionals and their patients around the world.

Digital Health Education Platform

Advances in eLearning technology have continued to transform the way medical students interact with educational materials. Short-format video content has grown in popularity, with more medical school students taking advantage of medical education videos on a daily basis. 40.9% in 2020 and, as a result, report better exam performance.

There continues to be a growing need for health and medical education professionals, which has been accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Osmosis uses evidence-based learning science to create different microcontent that turns complex medical concepts into easy-to-follow learning modules. With a wide reach in 195 countries, Osmosis has more than two million subscribers to its YouTube channel, more than 150 collaborations with institutions ranging from medical schools to digital health companies and more than a quarter of a million views of its content.

Post-acquisition plans

Osmosis will join Elsevier’s Global Medical Education portfolio, complementing its advanced digital solutions, which enable students and health professionals to learn and apply complex health information more effectively. Elsevier intends to enhance other segments of healthcare with the effective microcontent capabilities offered by Osmosis, including support for the learning needs of medical students and health professionals, nursing students, and eventually patients. Elsevier’s broad offering in health education includes content, digital learning tools and analysis for medical and nursing students to prepare them for successful careers in the health professions.
