NHS South, Central and West Commissioning Support Unit (SCW) has been commissioned by NHS England and NHS Improvement (South West) to set up a unified Child Health Information Service (CHIS) for Bath and North East Somerset. Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire.
From April 2022, all child health data will be managed securely and securely in one place as part of the South, Central and West Child Health Information Service (SCW CHIS). The service will ensure that accurate immunization and detection records are maintained for children under the age of 19 in Bath and North East Somerset, Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire. This will help support health professionals by conducting clinical interventions.
Through the program, children will receive invitations and reminders for national health screening programs when they reach the right age. The system will be interoperable and will allow healthcare and healthcare professionals to access the information available.
NCW CHIS will collect data from a number of health professionals, such as midwives, school nurses, health visitors, and GPs, to create a single child health record. Not only can this help improve health outcomes through early intervention, but it also has benefits for the protection and safeguarding of children.
The service, which supports the implementation of the Healthy Child (0-19 years) program, is expected to help encourage greater adoption of health checks and vaccines. By enhancing these vital clinical interventions, children and young people will have a reduced risk of harm, ill health and possible death.
Sue Trinder, Director of SCW CHIS, said: “This is very exciting news.
“We are delighted to be expanding the work we are currently doing in Bath and North East Somerset, Gloucestershire, Swindon to Wiltshire. children in the area “.
Last July, a single CHIS was launched in Liverpool and Sefton SCW was commissioned to replace six separate CHIS from Cheshire and Merseyside.
