May 6, 2021 – U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released guidelines for cruise lines on Tuesday for simulated voyages as a step toward the recovery of navigation in U.S. waters.
The guidelines describe all the requirements and recommendations for cruise operators to begin simulated trips with volunteer passengers before they can restart restricted passenger services, the CDC said.
The document describes how CDC inspections of cruises will be conducted during simulated and restricted passenger voyages, and includes requirements and recommendations on the prevention and surveillance of COVID-19 on ships.
“CDC is committed to working with the cruise industry and seaport partners to resume the cruise following the phased approach described in [guidelines]“This goal is in line with the prospective resumption of passenger operations in the United States in mid-summer, expressed by many major cruise operators and travelers,” the agency said.
