Cannabis for morning sickness CBD project

A recent one report by two Israeli researchers, Gideon Koren and Rana Cohen, al Journal of Cannabis Research details the cases of four pregnant women with severe morning sickness (pregnancy hyperemesis).

One case describes: “In her second pregnancy HG [morning sickness] it started at 4 weeks with up to 70 episodes of vomiting a day that needed repeated hospitalizations … “

All the women found that there were 2-3 blows of THC– rich marijuana (~ 20%) THC, 1% CBD) was helpful in reducing or preventing vomiting and reversing weight loss. The effect of inhaling small amounts of marijuana would last 2 to 4 hours and then be re-dosed, using a total of 1-2 grams a day. It appears that the researchers did not recommend it to patients, but were established in similar doses independently.

Babies are now up to 4 years old and there have been no apparent developmental issues.

The authors are emphatic who have not shown that cannabis is safe during pregnancy, but their work highlights the potential for use. THC-rich cannabis to treat serious morning sickness.
