Being hungry before going to bed can be annoying, especially when you don’t want to interrupt your sleep with a full stomach. Going hungry before going to bed can mean several things; it can mean that you are used to snacking before bed or that you have not consumed enough calories throughout the day.

While everyone has their own bedtime habits, most dietitians recommend scheduling the last heavy meal at least two hours before bedtime. This is advised prevent stomach upset and trouble sleeping, mainly because the stomach takes a couple of hours to digest food.

Your nutrition is not just about one meal. It is based on the number of calories you consume throughout the day, with each of the meals and snacks for a caloric and full purpose.

Breakfast is often called the most important meal of the day, usually as it sets the tone for the rest of the day. If you have a nutritious breakfast where you eat a lot of protein and fiber, you are likely to have less appetite later. The opposite is also true; if you have a breakfast composed of sugary, empty calories, you are likely to be hungry and crave more of this type of nutrition for the rest of the day.

If you plan your meals properly and eat the right things in the afternoon and evening, you’re probably not going crazy when you go to bed and have dinner. Be sure to buy plenty of healthy snacks and meals so you have your fridge full of necessities. Protein and fiber are nutritious and can help you feel full for longer periods of time. For example, foods such as oatmeal, beans, chicken, vegetables and nuts are very healthy and plentiful.
