Israel warned residents of the building, which also housed residential apartments and the AP office, that they had to evacuate an hour before the attack.

A building that housed international media offices, including Al Jazeera’s in the Gaza Strip, has been hit by an Israeli air strike that completely tore down the structure.

It was not immediately known if there were any casualties in Saturday’s attack. Al Jazeera’s live video showed the 11-story al-Jalaa building, which also houses several residences and other offices, crashing to the ground after being bombed while dust and debris flew into the air.

The building also housed The Associated Press news agency.

Al Jazeera’s Safwat al-Kahlout reported from Gaza City that a resident of the building received a call from the Israeli army warning of the impending strike about an hour before it was hit.

Al-Kahlout, who was in the building at the time, said he and his colleagues “began to collect everything they could, from office staff and equipment, especially cameras.” .

After seeing at least three missiles attacking the building and its subsequent collapse, al-Kahlout said he had worked on the building for 11 years and often did live reporting from its roof.

“I’ve been covering a lot of events in this building,” he said. “We have a lot of good memories with our teammates.”

It was not immediately clear why the building was targeted by Israel, but it is happening as numerous structures have been demolished, sometimes after a warning phone call or a “touch” of missiles, for Israeli attacks on the Palestinian enclave.

“One can now understand the sentiment of people whose homes have been destroyed by such airstrikes,” al-Kahlout said. “It’s really hard to wake up one day and then you realize your office isn’t there with all the professional experiences, memories you’ve had.”

In Gaza, at least 140 people have been killed, including 39 children and 22 women since the Israeli bombing began on Monday.

In Israel, at least nine people have been killed in rocket attacks by armed groups in Gaza.

In the early hours of Saturday, an airstrike ravaged a three-story house in the Shati refugee camp in Gaza City, killing eight children and two women from an extended family.
