The channel condemns the arrest of Givara Budeiri as a violation of international law and demands his immediate release.

Al Jazeera News Channel journalist Givara Budeiri was brutally arrested by Israeli occupation forces while covering demonstrations in the occupied Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem. Al Jazeera holds the Israeli government accountable for its welfare and demands its immediate release. Al Jazeera’s camera, Nabil Mazzawi, was also destroyed by the Israeli authorities while he was reporting.

Commenting on the arrest, Dr Mostefa Souag, Acting Director General of Al Jazeera Media Network, said: “We condemn the actions of the Israeli occupation forces in the strongest terms. The systematic orientation of our journalists totally violates all international conventions. Today’s violent actions by the Israeli occupation forces against Givara Budeiri and Nabil Mazzawi completely ignore the fundamental human rights of journalists. “

He added: “The silence of journalists terrorizing them has become a routine activity for the Israeli authorities, as has been seen in recent weeks in Gaza and occupied Jerusalem. These actions cannot be seen in isolation. Today’s arrests come just two weeks after the bombing and destruction of the Al Jalaa building, which housed offices of Al Jazeera and other media organizations in Gaza.

These attempts to prevent journalists from fulfilling their professional duty to inform the world and report facts on the ground are a crime against the journalistic profession.

Al Jazeera calls on the international community of journalistic organizations and human rights organizations to join hands to condemn the actions of the Israeli government and demand the immediate release of Givara Budeiri and other detained journalists to allow ‘ls exercise their profession without fear or intimidation.
