The latest version of Digital Health Unplugged is now live, this time with a new-looking format.
Host Andrea Downey talks individually with Liz O’Riordan, a breast surgery consultant and award-winning co-author of The Complete Guide to Breast Cancer: How to Feel Empowered and Take Control.
O’Riordan, who was a keynote speaker at Virtual Summer School 2021, talks about her own diagnosis of breast cancer in 2015 and her experience of the healthcare system from a patient’s perspective.
Despite his work as a breast cancer surgeon, O’Riordan said his experience in the consulting room had not prepared him for the experience of being a patient, and added that the technology provided him with access. to the information when he needed it most.
But he adds that more could be done to empower patients and support them with digital services, including access to and control of their own medical data.
O’Riordan said on “The patient with power is here to stay” which will change the doctor-patient relationship for the better.
“We need to help all patients have access to digital health and digital literacy, and we need to learn for ourselves what our patients need to help them better,” he said.
